Tightening Up Door Hinges

If the hinge screws have been loose for only a short time you may need to tighten them with a screwdriver.

If your door rubs near the top or drags on the floor use a screwdriver not a drill to tighten the screws. Next add a piece of wood shim or other hard material behindthe hinge. Then tighten the screws back up and check to see if the door swings evenly. Tighten the screws on the hinges as much as possible and then try closing the door to see if the problem is fixed.

If a door binds open it grasp the knob and lift up to see if a hinge is loose. Make sure all the screws are tight. If one is loose remove two or more screws and try driving in longer screws.
